thanks to Doug Wilson at Blog and Mablog for a link to this excellent article. i also am troubled by much of what i read from Mr. McLaren. in my opinion he gives too much away in his "generous orthodoxy" which in my humble opinion is neither generous or orthodox. but i am reminded of the remarks made by the singer from Ballydowse at Cornerstone about 5 years ago which God used to kick me in the rear end and get over myself. he said, "the Church needs to protect its heretics. if it comes down to the witches and the witch-burners, we'd better be on the side of the witches".
i will defend Mr.McLaren's right to work out his theology in public no matter how discomfitting it might be to my sensibilities and will count him a brother in the Lord until he clearly denies the deity of Jesus and the efficacy of His death on the cross.
