A big thanks and a tip o' the hat to my sister for sending me a link to this article. In writing about three of her children who have significant disabilities, the author says, "I wouldn't have missed it for the world."
We have our hands full with one child with special needs. I can't fathom what it would be like with three. But like the author, we would not have missed it for the world. Our lives have been enriched beyond description by the addition of our daughter. I cannot and will not presume to know and understand the feelings of loss and grief that biological parents of special needs children must deal with. We chose this, not knowing fully what it would be like, but we chose it nonetheless and have been blessed in ways we never could have imagined.
