I know I've written about this album before but it is one of my favorite albums of all time. TR could have cranked out a collection of songs just like "I Saw the Light" after the relative success of Something/Anything? but he chose to explore using the studio like a musical instrument. And while this LP was a portent of some of the prog-rock excesses of Utopia and later solo excursions I return to it quite regularly.
One of the best live shows I ever saw was Utopia at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago circa 1974. They had recently pared the group down to four members and they played a three hour show with no opening act and a 15 or 20 minute intermission. A highlight of that show was their take on "Something's Coming" from West Side Story. A good version of it can be heard on Todd Rundgren's Utopia's Another Live.
