The Bible nowhere calls for economic equality. The Bible in both Testaments teaches the doctrine of the great reversal. Covenant-breakers will be brought low, while covenant-keepers will be raised up. There is nothing about equality in this relationship. This reversal was taught by Moses (Deut. 28:13, 43–44), and it was taught most eloquently in what we call the Magnificat of Mary (Luke 1:51–53).
There will never be equality between heaven and hell. There will never be equality between the New Heavens and a New Earth (II Peter 3:13) on the one hand, and the lake of fire (Rev. 20:14) on the other.
But modern man wants to believe that there is no heaven, there is no hell, there will not be a New Heavens and a New Earth, and there will not be a lake of fire. He is appalled by the Bible’s doctrine of eternal
inequality between covenant-keepers and covenant-breakers. Modern man wants to believe that he is autonomous from God. He does not want to live in a cosmos in which God eternally rewards covenant-keepers and punishes covenant-breakers.
