but somehow when you smile I can brave bad weather."
As part of my new role as a stay-at-home dad I try to keep to a schedule of sorts so I don't fritter the days away poking around the internet or watching C-SPAN and RT. Today is cleaning day so I cranked up some tunes so I could whistle while I worked. I haven't listened to Tommy entire in quite a while.
I like Pete Townshend's songwriting. I really relate to his songs of morbid introspection and self loathing. He can, quite often, turn out a heartbreakingly gorgeous line such as the one quoted at the beginning of this post from "1921" on Tommy. Or the line from "Getting in Tune" on Who's Next, "There's a symphony that I hear in your heart sets my head a-reeling."
