It's been really interesting reading some of the MSM pieces about Edward Snowden as the smear machine gets rolling. A regular item is how he was a high school dropout. It's meant as a diss but I view it as a positive accomplishment.
I've think I've written about my departure from statist education at 15. School was incredibly boring and stupid and I've never really regretted bailing. I had a fair to middlin' career in the technology field despite not graduating from high school. Full disclosure compels me to admit that I did take and pass a GED exam.
In the past I've referred to educators as epistemological child molesters. Full dislosure also compels me to admit I borrowed that phrase from Gary North. I do not refer to the rank and file teacher, rather my contempt and disdain is for the architects of statist education, the government administrators and policy makers, the social engineers who seek to use compulsory education to transform children into obedient, compliant workers and cannon fodder.
I was blessed with near photographic memory, an older sister who helped me learn to read before I was four years old, and parents who loved reading and made sure there were plenty of books around. A library card and a set of Great Books of the Western World helped complete my education. When I was of elementary school age, my summer vacations were spent at the public library where my goal was to read a book each day. After this was done I would head to the local park to play softball with friends and neighbors.
