I've been reading more than usual lately. I just finished Daniel Pinchbeck's Breaking Open the Head. It's a fascinating read. I've been intrigued by altered states of consciousness since I was a very young boy. I remember seeing the Life magazine article (even though I was only 4 at the time) about Gordon Wasson's trip to Mexico to participate in a mushroom ritual with the local curandera, Maria Sabina. And while I have not ingested any entheogens in over thirty years, I have followed, with interest, the resurgence in the use of some of these "sacred medicines" for personal growth and self exploration.
On to matters of greater importance. Above is a picture of The Light of My Life with the latest addition to her collection of dolls. She also has this very creepy snowman doll which raps obnoxiously. Yesterday before she left for school she asked me for some milk. I opened the refrigerator to discover she had placed the snowman in it and the act of opening the door set it off. She thought this was terribly funny.
