XBRAINIAX - 99-Song Collection CD
99 tracks of high-speed A.D.D fastcore that will leave you deaf and out of breath. Mixing the time changes and speed of NO COMMENT with the all-out energy and thrash of LARM, XBRAINIAX's sheer intensity places them squarely within a lineage of the fastcore greats, and this collection - taken in its totality - clearly demonstrates that. This collects all their earlier EPs, split EPs, comp tracks, etc.

PUNCH - LP (repress)
Blistering Bay Area fastcore that is as good as it gets. Insightful lyrics, well-written hardcore and heavy-ass breakdowns that will most definitely drop the hammers of justice. 16 songs of punishing hardcore done with heart. This IS Bay Area Hardcore. Limited second press of 400 copies so act fast!

Torture Garden - Live At The Knitting Factory 1990

Thanks to Blogged and Quartered for the following description:

Torture Garden was "the Japanese side of Naked City", and played the shorter, more hardcore/grindcore oriented songs of John Zorn's Naked City project. They never recorded a studio album with this lineup, but played some shows in New York, one of which is documented here.

If you've heard Naked City's "Torture Garden" album, then you'll know what to expect here, as this is pretty much all material from that album. If you've never heard it, just expect complete insanity. Free form jazz grindcore with Zorn's screaming sax and Yamatsuka Eye's almost inhuman vocals. It just has to be heard to be believed. This set was recorded live at the Knitting Factory in NYC on October 6, 1990, and the sound quality is excellent.

Killwhitneydead - Inhaling The Breath Of A Bullet
"A frantic combination of grind-core, death metal and Slayer influenced dance floor hardcore (Kerry King solos included), which is then overlapped and intertwined with layers of samples, killwhitneydead pound out eleven tracks in just less than 15 minutes. To say that killwhitneydead push the boundaries is an understatement; they are prepared to annihilate everything and everyone standing in their way. Killwhitneydead have arrived so let the mayhem begin. Violence never sounded so good!"

Zao - Parade of Chaos
This release often gets dissed by fans of the band but I've always liked it, especially the 3 opening tracks, "The Buzzing," "Suspend Suspension," and "Parade of Chaos." "Angel Without Wings" ain't too bad either.

It's My Life (cont.)...

It's not a pair of baggy jeans and a band T-shirt that make you hardcore. It's a family

#2 Son, one of his friends, and I tackled the evening rush hour to drive into the city to see Madball and Suicidal Tendencies at the House of Blues last night. We made good time but the parking lot I had intended to park in was no longer there (I guess I've got to get into the city more often). We found an acceptable alternative a couple of blocks from the venue, hooked up with one of their friends and headed off to the show.

We were a bit late for the 6:00 PM start and thus missed most of the opening band's (Whole Wheat Bread) set. We caught a couple or three songs. They didn't suck but were nothing spectacular.

Madball played a rousing set of the New York hardcore for which they are known. These guys conjure up those feelings of family and belonging that I first experienced at an Articles of Faith show in Chicago back in the early Eighties. But this is not a nostalgia act. And while there were plenty of nods to the past their music and live show is still fresh and exciting.

Never having been a huge fan of Suicidal Tendencies, my expectations were not great. They played a good set of old and new songs to a wildly enthusiastic crowd. I don't think I've ever seen as many folks near my age at any of the shows I've attended in the past few years as I did last night. That's pretty good testimony to the loyalty of their fans.

Now Playing: Sick Of It All - Call To Arms - "Hindsight"
