New Release Coming From Gallows

UK hardcore/punk outfit Gallows is currently hard at work on a new album for Epitaph Records. The band comments:

"We've been writing for the last few weeks and have about a dozen tracks that we feel could go on the album so far. But, we also plan to write a whole load more before we begin recording so this album is going to be all killer, no filler. We know a lot of bands say that but you can trust us; when we say we mean it!"

Recording is scheduled to commence on September 1st with producer GGGarth Richardson (Rage Against The Machine) and the album is expected to hit stores in February 2009.

Varg Vikernes Denied Parole Once Again

Count Grishnackh (real name Varg Vikernes) - the erstwhile Burzum musician who is currently serving a 21-year jail sentence for murdering Mayhem guitarist Oystein "Euronymous" Aarseth and setting fire to three churches in 1993 - has been denied parole by the Norwegian justice system for the second time.

Officials say that his escape from jail five years ago and ties with neo-Nazi groups have affected his chances of an early release.

"I haven't been in contact with them for a long time," Vikernes tells Norway's Aftenposten. "Police security services know this."

SE ASIA THRASH DEMOLITION CD
I am always surprised on the quality of the demos I get from SE ASIA, ripping music, sincere members and great politics. Bands on this are: FASTGAME, EDORA, SECRET 7, DOMESTIK DOKTRINE, FEUD, plus more.....Everyting from fastcore to crust to youth crew. Better than most bands coming from over-hyped scenes these days.

SOCIETY OF FRIENDS Collection CD
This collects the LP on 625 plus an entirely new recording of all their old songs. Was supposed to come out on Satan's Pimp awhile ago....finally hitting the masses. You thought the LP was a speed picking, time changing masterpiece, wait till ya hear their entire set......fucked up shit. I don't even know who to compare it to....MITB meets Flag?

Ambitions Confirms Break-Up

Ambitions has now confirmed their break-up. Formed roughly three years ago, the Connecticut band has released material with Bridge Nine Records and Surprise Attack Records, among others. The following statement has been issued:

"With members living in 3 states and various other demands of life, it’s been harder and harder to devote the time to this band that we feel it deserves. Between one of the members preparing for a reality show and another supporting the campaign trail for Barack Obama, things have been extremely busy outside of the band. Rather than become less and less active, we've decided to put a proper end to something that has meant a lot to us. This band has been a big part of our lives for the past 3 years, and we can't begin to thank everyone for their support and friendship.
"Since our beginning in 2005, we've had the opportunity to tour with our favorite bands, play some incredible shows, as well as work with three of the best labels in hardcore. We also managed to release an EP, a full-length, and lots and lots of vinyl! Thanks to all the members who have filled in as part of this project: Matts Fox and Fletcher, Brian "Handle", Mark Choiniere, Adam Opot, and Sean Martin. Also we'd like to give special thanks to Greg Thomas at Silver Bullet Studios for his endless patience in recording every piece of music we released.

"Unfortunately, due to financial difficulties, we won't be able to make our long overdue trip out west to play Sound & Fury. However, we will be playing two final shows in CT, and we hope to see everyone there. This has been a great journey, and one we will never forget."

Recent Releases From 625Thrash

Released 5/19/2008
THREATENER - Discography CD
A collection of all output by this 1000mph Michigan mayhem blast squad: EPs, Comps, Radio session plus extra tracks galore. Its pure mayhem, most songs 30 seconds or less - a total audio assault on the senses. This CD is the true definition of blurcore. Easily one of the best fastcore bands from the past decade - hold onto your meat sacks.
Released 5/5/2008
RUNNING FOR COVER - LP
From the frozen tundra of Buffalo New York, this power-violence unit re-defined blasting fastcore. 1000mph blasting, insane riffage, MITB bass-leads, incisive and critical lyrics....throw it in a blender and you have the legendary RFC. Sadly, the band broke up a few years back, but they left us with this last will and testament to all things punishing and brutal.
PUNCH - Debut EP
Seriously sick-fucking-O fastcore from the Bay Area. Featuring ex-members of prior Bay Area blast-units like DOPPELGANGER and ROSENBOMBS, PUNCH take it to a new level by bringing small doses of 'the mosh', only to change-times into rapid-fire blasting that will kick your teeth in. Seriously, this shit is gonna stomp your track-bike into pieces and proves once again that the Bay Area is the capital for speedcore.
In early 2008 we had the following released......
FINAL DRAFT - EP
Ferocious fastcore from the blastcore capital of Inglewood. Following up earlier splits and demos, FINAL DRAFT wreaks havoc with this debut full-EP, invoking earlier instances of 310-violence such as DESPISE YOU, while marking out their own style and originality. Songs are hectic, lyrics are pissed....not for the meek.
SFN - Demo EP
Some of the most punishing fastcore that has emerged in years. This band has been stewing in bong water for the past few years in the land of milk and cheese (aka Wisconsin), and have emerged from the haze of hashish and Eric Wood bass-licks to record a punishing demo. This is truly the new generation - half your age and twice as good as your band. Completely jock-free power-violence. Limited pressing.
INSECT WARFARE - Limited Colored Vinyl
The World Extermination LP went into its 3rd press, and this time around its a limited edition (500 copies) on purple vinyl. Just in time for their trips to Australia and Japan!
INFECT - Discography CD
INFECT blasted onto the scene in the late 1990s, delivery a powerful mix of politically charged lyrics, and fast, energetic thrashcore. Part of a new wave of fastcore/thrash/hardcore bands from Sao Paolo Brazil, INFECT staked their claims in a male-dominated scene, confronting social inequality with one of the best soundtracks ever. This CD collects everything this seminal all-female Brazilian HC/thrash band ever did. Eps, comps, splits, their superb full length LP plus demos and unreleased studio tracks. A must have.
IRON LUNG - Life. Iron Lung. Death CD
A repress of their debut full length on CD, which also includes the entire first recording session they did. This two-man band has been deemed fastcore, grindcore, power-violence, hardcore and numerous other 'tags' that indicate ferocity and speed. But their unique song writing and conceptual approach defy any simplistic genre. For those who have seen them live, you know. For those who have yet to experience the LUNG, this is your warning. One of the best bands of the last decade as far as I'm concerned.

Norma Jean Hits the Studio

MVC-001F (WinCE)
Our daughter loves Norma Jean

Official press release:

Norma Jean, now in the studio with producer Ross Robinson (Glassjaw, At The Drive In) and engineer Ryan Boesch, will deliver their fourth album The Anti Mother late this summer on Solid State Records (exact release date TBA). For a few of the album's songs, the band wrote in collaboration separately with Page Hamilton of Helmet and Chino Moreno of Deftones.

The Anti Mother marks the follow-up to the Atlanta-based post hardcore group's critically lauded 2006 Redeemer album, hailed by Revolver magazine as "a menacingly brutal slab of noisecore with just the right hint of melody, while Kerrang! declared it to be "a cauterizing kaleidoscope of earth-clawing turmoil and brutalized sonic adventure..." Fans will get to experience The Anti Mother live this summer when Norma Jean - Cory Brandan (vocals), Scottie Henry (guitars), Jake Schultz (bass), Chris Day (guitars) and Chris Raines (drums) - hit the road as one of the headlining main-stage acts on the Vans Warped Tour 2008.

"The Anti Mother is a character we created which represents anything that is deceptive, and yet possesses an outwardly beautiful nature," lead singer Cory Brandan says of the album title and theme. Musically, he points out "this record is the most melodic album we've ever created, but it's definitely the heaviest record Norma Jean has done as well--and furious at that."
The spirit of collaboration highlights The Anti Mother. "We were able to work with Page and Chino on two separate occasions, and as two of our biggest influences musically, it was definitely a moment having them here in the studio." Cory notes, "Page came to our practice space and for the first hour he was just showing us cool guitar chords, teaching us new things technically. The song we wrote with him is heavy as crap and full of energy--you'll notice his influence. For Chino, the writing was more impulsive. We were already in pre-production with Ross, but the song we wrote with Chino came out so diverse and anti-traditional. Chino ended up hanging out for a few days and we wrote two songs with him." Adds Cory: "Many bands have guest vocalists on their records, but we were inspired by the idea of collaborative songwriting with some of our favorite musicians. In a collaboration, no one is beyond reproach, and there is always something we can learn and someone to learn it from."

Cornerstone 2008

"In two months and two days, we will refer to Cornerstone 2008 in the past tense and surely one of the highlights will be the DeGarmo & Key concert, their only one in a festival setting all summer.
CMSpin  mentions this historic event in a nice back-story article for the few on this list who don't know WHY this is significant.
Then there's the Sixpence None the Richer reunion, a rare Charlie Peacock appearance, a Living Sacrifice reunion, Still Remains final show, Cornerstone's first festival-wide candlelight communion service, 600 bands, a film festival, seminars, sports, and a 25,000-strong community encamped for a life-changing week--just some of the reasons Cornerstone Festival is THE most important Christian festival.
Dates: June 30th - July 5th
Location: Bushnell, Illinois
Main website: www.cornerstonefestival.com "

We haven't gone as a family to the fest for a few years now. Mrs. Metal Dad finally had enough of it, the boys are busy with jobs and other stuff. But I have a fond place in my heart for the festival. Sitting on the hill one summer a number of years ago an off-hand remark by the singer from the band Ballydowse provided a spiritual kick in the pants for me and I realized I could jettison all the fundamentalist crap without abandoning faith in God. And I came to realize that I did not have to have it all figured out. Rather than "a God of my understanding" I found a God I did not understand and that was OK.

Metal Masters Tour

METAL LEGENDS JUDAS PRIEST, HEAVEN & HELL, MOTORHEAD, AND TESTAMENT UNITE FOR ‘METAL MASTERS TOUR’
WORLD PREMIERE OF JUDAS PRIEST ‘NOSTRADAMUS’ COVER ART AND FREE MP3 DOWNLOAD OF TITLE TRACK AT LIVENATION.COM
After weeks of speculation, Live Nation has put together a killer package that is bound to go down as the heavy metal event of 2008 - Judas Priest, Heaven and Hell, Motorhead and Testament will be touring together for the first time.
Dubbed ‘The Metal Masters Tour,’ the fifteen-date U.S. trek kicks off August 6th at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, New Jersey.  Tickets go on sale to the public beginning this weekend at www.livenation.com.  Judas Priest will be supporting their epic concept album, ‘Nostradamus,’ arriving June 17th via Epic Records, which tells the tale of the renowned 16th century prophet.  A few tracks from ‘Nostradamus’ will make their in-concert debut on ‘The Metal Masters Tour,’ but the majority of Priest’s set list will include some of metal’s all-time classics, as well as fan favorites that span the quintet’s entire career. Without a doubt, this will be one of Priest’s most powerful sets ever.
As a ‘sneak peak treat’ to fans starved for a musical taster, the first cut off the new album will make its world premiere debut as exclusive free MP3 download starting today exclusively at www.livenation.com/judaspriest.
Heaven & Hell will be supporting the release of ‘The Rules Of Hell,’ a five-CD boxed set available July 22nd from Rhino Records, which features re-mastered versions of all four Dio-era Black Sabbath albums (‘Heaven and Hell,’ ‘Mob Rules,’ ‘Live Evil’ and ‘Dehumanizer’) in a deluxe package with new liner notes.
Perennial road rats Motorhead will be offering a blistering barnstormer of a set spanning more than three decades of molar-rattling biker metal.  A new studio album - the 20th of their storied career - is currently being recorded at their old pal Dave Grohl’s studio with an August release date targeted.  Frontman Lemmy, named by the U.K.’s Guardian newspaper as “the nation’s greatest living Englishman,” blairs out, "Here it comes everybody, the test of your Metalness in 2008 and the years to come!  Come one come all and be abused!"
Rounding out the line-up will be legendary thrash metal titans Testament, whose new album, ‘The Formation of Damnation,’ (April 29th) displays Testament as the quintessential modern heavy metal band, whose experience and accumulated skill allows them to attack with reserves of anger, energy and finesse that make them more powerful than ever.  Lead singer Chuck Billy says, “Uniting these bands is the heavy metal event of generations.  We are so proud to be a part of it.”
Although all four bands may represent different subgenres of heavy metal, all four have one thing in common – they have stuck to their stylistic guns through thick and thin, and have remained true to the metal form.  And soon, band and fan will be united as one on ‘The Metal Masters Tour.’
“As ever, we look forward to screaming out loud with our metal maniac fans when we hit the road,” enthuses Priest singer, Rob Halford.  “Thank you once again for your devotion and support.  The Priest is back!”
This tour will be limited to fifteen very special engagements, and Citi cardmembers will have pre-sale access to tickets through Citi's Private Pass® Program, available to all Citi cardmembers at www.privatepass.citi.com.
Metal maniacs seeking the ultimate concert experience can access unique VIP ticket and fan experience packages that offer premium seats, meet & greets,  pre-concert parties and more brought to you by the band's official websites,
www.judaspriest.com and www.heavenandhelllive.com.
VIP packages for the first events will be on sale by 10 a.m eastern time on Friday, April 25th.  Also, not all VIP packages are the same, so be sure to pick the right one that suits you best.
